5th care package, a bit conservative :)

Posted On: Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 at 4:35 pm

I’ve been so excited about our log in date that I almost forgot to blog about this. 🙂 I can’t believe we’ve known about our girl for over four months! We sent her a 5th care package last Tuesday. I tried to be a little more conservative with this package. Just a letter, yummy treats, coloring books and crayons, and a new little photo album (because the first has to be more than full with the number of pics I’ve been sending). There are also 10 bibs and 18 pairs of socks to give to the other children and babies. 🙂

Care package #5

Why was I conservative? Well, since you asked, next month is Jiao Jiao’s birthday and I plan to go ALL OUT!! If there is anything that will tempt me to loosen my purse strings right now, this is it! She will be 8 years old on June 14th. (I still find it interesting that in 2002 both our daughters were born; we just didn’t know about the second.) Anyway, it seems to be tradition, almost an expectation, that the child will receive a birthday cake from their family while they’re still waiting in the orphanage. This is not just a birthday cake. I’m sure it is her FIRST birthday cake. Eight years old and getting her very first birthday cake…

My heart aches when I think about how many little children see their orphanage-mates get their first birthday cake from their new family,  wondering if they will ever get one. 🙁 I met someone on a yahoo group who is adopting their son from Puyang. She sent him a birthday cake a few months ago, and guess who was there to share it with him! (Thank you for the pics, Nancy!)   I love his little face. And Jiao Jiao’s face seems to say something.  I wonder what she was thinking… Eating the cake does not seem like her priority here. 🙂

Jiao Jiao on the right!

Not missing anything!

Really wanting to see everything!

I’m hopeful that we can make her last birthday in the orphanage something to remember fondly.
